India is rapidly moving forward in the field of energy and is trying to achieve new targets. In this, an official statement said that renewable energy contributes 46 percent to the country’s total installed power generation capacity of 452.69 gigawatts. The country’s total renewable energy capacity has crossed 200 gigawatts (gigawatts). The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said that India’s RE capacity increased by 24.2 gigawatts (13.5 percent) in just one year to reach 203.18 gigawatts in October 2024.
“Renewable energy now accounts for more than 46.3 per cent of total capacity,” MNRE said. It said India’s total electricity generation capacity has reached 452.69 GW. With nuclear capacity, India’s total non-fossil fuel capacity was 211.36 GW in 2023 compared to 186.46 GW in 2023.
Of the total 203 GW, solar power will generate 92.12 GW, wind power 47.72 GW, large hydropower projects 46.93 GW and small hydropower projects 5.07 GW. Biopower, including biomass and biogas power, adds an additional 11.32 GW to the renewable energy mix.
