June 4, 2025 : Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has demanded that Amritsar be declared a No-War Zone. He has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this request.
In the letter, MP Randhawa wrote that Amritsar, home to the Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), is not just a geographical location but the very soul of the Sikh religion and a sacred place of love and peace for humanity. Its sanctity goes beyond religious boundaries, making it a place that sends a message of unity, compassion, and solace in today’s divided and conflict-ridden world.
MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa stated that this appeal is not a demand for any form of political sovereignty like in the case of Vatican City. Rather, it is a humble request for spiritual and permanent international recognition of security. As tensions and military forces increase worldwide, it is very important to keep Amritsar fully protected from present and future threats of violence.
The global teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, which are based on peace, humility, and universal brotherhood, serve as a moral force against increasing militarization around the world. While many powers escalate conflicts, Sikh philosophy should be upheld as the ultimate hope for the welfare of all and the peaceful existence of humanity. Concerns have been raised by the Sikh community and citizens regarding the potential insecurity of Amritsar.
