June 10, 2025 : There has been a sharp rise in active COVID-19 cases in Punjab over the past week. According to health department data, the number of active cases has jumped from 12 last week to 35 now. The highest number of cases have been reported from Ludhiana, with 23 new infections. In the last 24 hours alone, 2 new cases were reported — one from an urban area and one from a rural region.
These cases in Ludhiana come at a time when political activity related to by-elections, election campaigns in crowded places, and the summer vacation rush at tourist spots have significantly increased public movement. Apart from Ludhiana’s 23 cases, Jalandhar has reported 6, Mohali 4, and Ferozepur 2 cases.
Two deaths confirmed
Two COVID-19 related deaths have been confirmed in Ludhiana. One was a 69-year-old woman undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh, and the other was a 39-year-old man receiving care at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Health officials stated that both patients had pre-existing serious illnesses, which made the virus more lethal in their cases.
Dr. Rajesh Bhaskar, Punjab’s COVID Nodal Officer, said that current patients are showing mild symptoms and the situation is under control. The health department is closely monitoring the situation and may issue an advisory regarding COVID in the coming days, though discussions are still ongoing.
Steps to prevent COVID-19:
- Avoid visiting crowded places.
- Wear a mask in public areas.
- Maintain hand hygiene by washing hands regularly.
- If you experience symptoms like cold, cough, body ache, or fever, get tested.
- If sick, visit a hospital or clinic and inform doctors about your symptoms.
