3 Aug 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Punjab’s teenage badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma has scripted history by becoming the youngest-ever champion at the BWF Taipei Open Super 300, delivering a stunning performance to claim her maiden World Tour title. At just 17 years and 222 days old, the Hoshiarpur shuttler broke the tournament’s long-standing age record.
Historic Triumph in Taipei
In the women’s singles final, Tanvi defeated Vietnam’s sixth seed Nguyen Thuy Linh in straight games 21-16, 21-16, capping a remarkable week in which she dropped only one game throughout the tournament.
Youngest Champion in Tournament History
With the victory, Tanvi surpassed the previous record held by Taiwan’s legendary shuttler Tai Tzu Ying, becoming the youngest champion in the history of the Taipei Open across all categories.
A Landmark for Indian Badminton
Tanvi also became only the second Indian woman, after Saina Nehwal, to win the Taipei Open women’s singles title. Her triumph ended India’s 18-year wait for the prestigious crown.
