The Yuva Aapda Mitra (Youth Disaster Friend) Training Program, being organized by the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Punjab State Disaster Management Authority (PSDMA), is progressing successfully at Shri Sukhmani College, Dera Bassi.
The second day of the training program commenced with the traditional ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The event was attended by the Course Director from MGSIPA, the Principal of Shri Sukhmani College, college staff, the MGSIPA instructor team, and officials from the Dera Bassi administration.
During the training sessions, NSS volunteers were provided detailed guidance on earthquake preparedness, heatwave safety, pre-disaster preparedness measures, first aid, and the use of household items to save the lives of injured or ill persons during emergency situations.
The MGSIPA instructors explained the importance of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and demonstrated the correct CPR technique, along with the immediate steps to be taken in the event of cardiac arrest. Volunteers were also trained in safely rescuing heatwave victims, various techniques for transporting injured persons, and placing patients in the recovery position after administering first aid. In addition, participants received information about the causes and symptoms of heart attacks and the timely measures that can help save lives.
On the occasion, Dr. Prof. Yog Bhatia, Head Consultant and Course Director (Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme), MGSIPA, stated that the primary objective of the training is to equip young people with the skills and knowledge required to provide prompt and effective assistance during disasters, thereby minimizing the loss of life in emergency situations.
The program was attended by NSS volunteers, NSS Programme Officers, the Principal and staff of Shri Sukhmani College, the MGSIPA instructor team, Tehsildar Bir Karan Singh, Kanungo, Patwari, and other officials of the Dera Bassi administration.
