May 22 : 2026 (Navroze Bureau) : Pakistan has announced plans to issue a special commemorative Rs 75 coin to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations with China, highlighting the longstanding strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries.
The commemorative coin will officially mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties established between Pakistan and China on May 21, 1951. According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the special coin will be made available to the public from May 25 through designated exchange counters operated by the SBP Banking Services Corporation across the country.
Officials described the commemorative release as a symbolic gesture reflecting the “all-weather friendship” and strategic partnership that has evolved between Islamabad and Beijing over the past seven decades.
According to details released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the coin has been specially designed to represent the diplomatic, economic, and cultural relationship shared by both nations.
The coin reportedly carries the national flags of Pakistan and China on one side along with inscriptions commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The phrases “Trust, Friendship, Support” are also inscribed in English, Urdu, and Chinese languages, emphasizing the close ties between the two countries.
The commemorative coin is round in shape and made from a copper-nickel alloy containing 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel. Officials stated that it measures 36 millimeters in diameter and weighs 19 grams.
On the obverse side, the coin features Pakistan’s crescent and star along with the inscription “Islami Jamhuria Pakistan.” The year of issuance, 2026, is also engraved beneath the national symbol.
The reverse side highlights the anniversary theme celebrating diplomatic relations between the two countries. Officials said the design was intended to symbolize unity, friendship, and long-term cooperation between Islamabad and Beijing.
Pakistan and China are often described as strategic allies with close cooperation in defense, infrastructure, trade, energy, and regional diplomacy. Over the decades, the relationship has expanded significantly through projects linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, commonly known as CPEC.
CPEC remains one of the flagship projects connected to China’s Belt and Road Initiative and has played a major role in strengthening economic ties between the two countries. Pakistan views China as one of its closest strategic and economic partners, while Beijing considers Islamabad an important regional ally.
The commemorative coin announcement also comes amid ongoing celebrations and diplomatic activities planned throughout 2026 to mark the milestone anniversary of Pakistan-China relations.
Pakistani authorities have reportedly organized a series of cultural, academic, diplomatic, and educational events to celebrate the occasion. These include exhibitions, conferences, stamp and coin competitions, and bilateral exchange programs aimed at highlighting the historical partnership between the two countries.
The anniversary year has also coincided with increased diplomatic engagement between the two governments. Reports indicate that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to visit China soon for high-level discussions with Chinese leadership including Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
Officials from both countries have repeatedly emphasized that Pakistan-China relations continue to deepen despite changing regional and global geopolitical dynamics.
Analysts say commemorative coins often serve as symbolic diplomatic tools used by governments to celebrate historic milestones, reinforce bilateral ties, and promote national narratives.
Pakistan has previously issued several commemorative coins linked to major national events, diplomatic anniversaries, and historical figures. Earlier commemorative coins were also released to mark previous milestones in Pakistan-China relations, including the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the anniversary of CPEC.
Collectors and numismatics enthusiasts in Pakistan have already shown strong interest in the newly announced Rs 75 coin, especially because it combines diplomatic symbolism with historical significance.
Experts believe the release is likely to attract attention not only from coin collectors but also from supporters of Pakistan-China relations who view the partnership as strategically important for regional stability and economic cooperation.
The State Bank of Pakistan stated that the coin will enter public circulation through official banking channels starting May 25.
As Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, the commemorative coin has become one of the most visible public symbols celebrating a partnership that both governments frequently describe as “higher than mountains, deeper than oceans, and sweeter than honey.”
